A new friend

We have recently had another new addtion to the family. No, not another baby, but a kitten! Mercutio has joined the ranks as the newest and cutest fuzzy thing.

Mr. S and I have taken to calling him just Merc, but Rinn has started calling him Tio which is vastly cuter...we'll see which wins out.

Rinn absolutely adores him. They run around the house together Rinn after Tio and then Tio after Rinn. They get in all kinds of trouble together. He is very kind and loving, he even lets Rinn manhandle him. He has been pulled, pushed, stepped on, and sat upon. Poor kitty.

Here he is enjoying the warmth of the heating grate - aka where he is when we are in the kitchen because he follows us everywhere.

Ice Ice Baby - Part 2

Ice Ice Baby

Recently we had an ice storm come through. It was very interesting and very scary (for me). Afterwards we got these great pictures!

The ice made all of the trees look purple rather than brown. It constantly reminded me of Narnia in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe - magical, beautiful.

Sunset

A beautiful sunset from a week or so ago. Enjoy.

Mr. & Mrs. Speckperson's Christmas Present to each other

We increased our number of Society Finches from 1 to 3! The two on the left are new. We love waking up and hearing even more twittering!! From left to right: Octavius, Jaques, and Soma.

One Step at a Time

Last night Rinn walked across the room completely by herself. This was about 15 feet! Yeah!!!

She also walked away from Mr. Speckperson and then turned around and then walked some more and turned around and walked back to Mr. Speckperson! This is quite an accomplishment for someone who, well, has never done it before!

I'm so excited that my baby is becoming a toddler. I'm sad that the time with my baby is ending. It's a weird feeling. I guess it's a good thing that it all progresses so slowly.

Very Very Very Late 9 Month update

Better late than never is generally a good principle to go by. So here is Rinn's 9 month update!

At 9 months, Rinn watched people more and talked more. The way she grabbed her food changed from a fist to a more refined thumb and first finger grab. She dropped things from her high chair constantly and then peered over to see where it had gone. Sometimes she stared at it for a long time before dropping something else over. She picked up everything off the ground - lint, cat litter, rocks, leaves - it all went straight in her mouth. It's been fun to try to get them back out while avoiding all those teeth! All of these things came on gradually and did not seem like a big deal at the time, but they are important developmentally.

Oh, I forgot that she has been out in the world longer than she has been in the womb! Yeah!!
